Who is This Guy?

Why do vampires love Bryan Paul Bell's music?  He doesn't know but he owes them for putting his music in front of millions of fans of vampire-themed TV shows like “What We Do in the Shadows” and “The Vampire Diaries.”  Of course, vampires aren't his only fans; most people who appreciate bluesy, distorted guitars and lyrics that weave tales of human faults, failures and fables follow him.

Bryan got his start as the front man for the Bakersfield-based alt rock quartet Large Wooden Matches. The band performed his original blues-inspired songs at the bars and clubs of the  Central California town.  When he relocated to Southern Californa,  he ended the band and began a solo career as a recording artist and his music began catching the attention of television music supervisors landing him on popular, dark-themed shows.

Midnight on a Dead Man's Boat

In 2023 Bryan released his first full-length LP Midnight on a Dead Man's Boat which landed on the top-ten of the World Indie Music Charts and stayed there for seven weeks. The album's popularity continues to grow as new fans discover it on independent radio stations and streaming services.

The album's title is drawn from an experience Bryan had at the height of the pandemic while he was recording the album. He and his brother endeavored to return to California the boat of a friend who had died while sailing in Mexico. The voyage was plagued with mechanical failure and rough seas and the two found themselves at the mercy of the wind and the tides to make their way to a small isolated village on the barren coast of the Baja peninsula; and things got worse from there. The story is too long for this brief bio but it will be told elsewhere.

For now, take a little time and listen to the album, a voyage through the lexicon of American and British rock and as unpredictable as the voyage that inspired the album's title.
